Patriotic Trifle

If you’re looking for a delicious Memorial Day dessert, this is a great recipe.

Layers of fluffy Angel food cake with a thick blueberry syrup, laced with cream cheese frosting and topped with fresh fruit.

🫐TIP: to cut down on prep time, purchase a bottle of blueberry pancake syrup, and omit making your own. Use 1 1/2 C. Of syrup.

Patriotic Trifle

1 Angel Food Cake, cut into 1 inch squares

🍓Blueberry Sauce:

1 lb. fresh blueberries

1/2 C. Sugar

Juice of a half lemon

1/3 C. Water

Add all ingredients to a medium size saucepan.

Cook on medium heat for 20 minutes. Stir often. To thicken up, make a slurry of 1 T. Corn starch + 1 T water. Stir smooth and add to the blueberry syrup. Cook for a few minutes. Remove from heat. Allow to cool.

🍓In a medium size bowl, slice 2 qts. of strawberries. Add 1/4 C. Sugar. Stir well. Allow to sit for 20 minutes. The sugar will draw the juices out of the strawberries. Stir well.

🍓Cream Cheese Frosting:

8 oz. cream cheese, softened

1/4 C. Sugar

1/4 C. Heavy cream

2 C. Whipped cream, whipped.

In a trifle dish, cover the bottom with cubed cake pieces.

Pour the blueberry syrup over the cake.

Spread a layer of cream cheese frosting over the blueberries.

Add a layer of cake cubes.

Add 2/3 of the strawberries.

Add a layer of cream cheese frosting.

Add a layer of cake cubes.

Add the rest of the cream cheese frosting.

Spread smooth.

Garnish with the rest of the strawberries and a few blueberries.
